Episode #162: Evil Twin Femme Fatale Brett
In much of the beer world, the “wild” yeast Brettanomyces is feared and avoided at all costs. Once it infects your brewhouse, it can be difficult to get rid of it’s earthy, funky flavors in your beer. Traditionally, this yeast was typically only seen in the sour ales of Belgium, where Brett’s farmhouse characteristics were desired. Enter gypsy brewer Evil Twin, who goes ahead and brews one of the first, if not THE first American-style IPA with 100% Brettanomyces!

About the Temple
The Beer Temple is a craft beer store, owned and operated by Christopher and Margaret Quinn of Chicago, Illinois. Chris is recognized by the Siebel Institute of Technology, America's oldest brewing school, as a Master of Beer Styles and Evaluation. He is a Certified Cicerone, a recognized judge with the Beer Judge Certification Program, and member of the beer panel at the Beverage Testing Institute. Margaret is a Certified Beer Server, and has also completed classes at the Siebel Institute of Technology.

You know, maybe you just need a big sign that says “taping in progress”, occasionally spin the camera around so they can wave…
I keep passing this one up, given that I’m trying to cut back on my purchases, but I admit it intrigues me a little. I just had the Against The Grain “Booby Trap”, a lactic-infused IPA, which was kind of interesting (can’t decide if I think it worked or not, but it was a decent quaffer), and it interests me how we’re in a “boom” of stretching the IPA category (imperial IPAs, black IPAs, white IPAs, Belgian IPAs, lactic IPAs, think I’ve seen a red IPA…). Can’t help but wonder what’s next (hmm, winter IPA with nutmeg and cinnamon?).
