As someone who is interested in the Cicerone Certification , as well as currently going to a BJCP prep course, I was wondering how to prepare for the Cicerone exam and any other advice you might have. The website lacks clarity.

      Hi Michael,

If you are interested in becoming a Cicerone, the first thing I would do is go to their site and download the free mast syllabus. It will give you an idea of all the basic areas you are expected to know about. A lot of it is redundant with BJCP, so you may want to consider taking both tests while the info is still fresh in your head.

Another helpful thing you could do is take the entry level Cicerone test – The Certified Beer Server Test – completely cold without studying. I’m fairly sure you get two attempts along with you exam fee, and it will give you a good idea of what areas you are stronger/weaker in. I think Ray Daniels, who runs Cicerone, generally says that if you score 90% or better on the CBS test, you may be a candidate for Cicerone.

Hope that helps and good luck! Please let me know how you do.

Too bad the white house didnt send you some of their beer to try. Pretty cool having homebrew in the white house.

  3. From "Russ Perry Jr" :

I’m not sure I tasted it as “buttery”, but it did seem “off” to me. As I drank it, I got more used to it, but at first it was a bit off-putting.
